1) Since childhood I've listened to all kinds of classical music, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Grieg etc... and more refined music like Rush “Moving Pictures”, Spyro Gyra “Rites of Summer”, Dream Theater “Images and Words”, so I can detect good musicians and good music. I consider you guys at Edge of Paradise very skilled. Did you study music at a conservatory? Usually, how much time does Edge of Paradise spend creating each song?
Thank you, that means a lot, especially coming from someone with such a deep appreciation for music! I started as a classical pianist and studied music from a young age, so composers like Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach were a huge part of my foundation. Probably influences me to this day in my songwriting.
As a band, we don’t follow a strict formula when writing. Some songs come together quicker than others. But most of the time it starts with me and the keyboard at home, then Dave and Doug put some demo guitars. Once we have the structure, with demo guitars, some samples, I record the vocals at the studio, and then we rebuild the song as a band. Drums, guitars, bass and keyboards. So the production is a longer process, usually about a week, we have everything together and send the files to Jacob Hansen, who mixes the song and brings it to life!
2) Margarita, your voice is very striking and emotional – expressing feeling in the words, so I imagine that the messages in the lyrics are an important point in the musical structure of Edge of Paradise, right? Does this come from personal experiences or also from movies or other things?
Thank you so much! Yes, the lyrics are very important to me, music inspires the words and words inspire the melodies. And with each album, we continue the story. I definitely draw from personal experiences, feelings, what is going on around me… I want every word to carry emotion and intention.
A lot of it comes from observing the world, from science and technology, from philosophical ideas… especially questions about consciousness, identity, and what it means to be human in an increasingly technological world. I create these larger than life words, but at the very core every song is rooted in very human experiences and emotions.
3) I know it's early, but are you already working on a new album, maybe for next year? What can fans expect?
Actually yes, I’ve started working on a new song that I’m really excited about, so after the tour, we’re definitely going to focus on recording it and kickstart the next album!
4) The European tour is about to begin in May, and I believe you're all eager to meet your fans in Europe, right?
We always love to tour Europe! This time is a little different, because we have a lot of headlining shows. So we’re brining a longer set and we’re just excited to see all the wonderful people that have supported us for years and make new friends as well! After everything we’ve been building, it feels like we’re finally stepping into that world together!
5) Another impressive thing about Edge of Paradise are the music videos, the "super professional" production and creation, the well-crafted scenery and effects. Could you tell us how it all begins, the ideas and the location where you film? That sounds expensive :)
The music videos are a huge part of our band, brining that visual dimension to the songs. It usually starts with a vision, sometimes a very clear image or concept that comes to me while listening to the song, or the painting can inspire as well. From there, we build the world around it and try to make it happen!
I work with an amazing camera operator and film maker Julien Oyanedel. And I’m very hands-on in the creative process—developing the story, the props, the visuals, the styling… And yes… it can definitely be expensive, that’s why I started handling a lot of it myself. For us videos are so important, it’s an extension of the music and I studied film, in college, so it’s just something I love to do as well, creating an experience that people can step into!
6) I don't know if anyone has ever mentioned how Edge of Paradise's music has a positive vibe, but even on a boring day, listening to Edge of Paradise lifts my spirit. What are your inspirations and motivations for creating the music on Edge of Paradise?
I love that you feel that way, that means so much to me! Even when the themes are dark or intense, there is always a sense of empowerment in our music.
I really believe that no matter how complex or overwhelming the world becomes, there is still something within us that is strong, resilient, and capable to rise above. That’s what drives us in the band too, creating something that not only expresses emotion, but also gives people a sense of strength, connection and power!
7) Plans for South America?
We’re actively working on putting something together for later this year or early 2027! We love the people of South America and we can’t wait experience the energy live!
8) Finally, please send a message to your fans:
Thank you for stepping into the world of Edge of Paradise. Your energy, your passion, your belief in what we create… it means everything.
We’re coming to see you very soon, and we can’t wait to share this experience together!
